Happy New Year Rotary Club of River Cities weekly meeting Our Club meeting includes a terrific speaker who will discuss how a high speed rail (network of fast, frequent trains that connect the entire nation) is a great green transportation solution. How do we pay for it? How come it doesn't exist in the US already? What does this look like in the future? Our guest speaker is Mr. Rick Harnish, Executive Director of High Speed Rail Alliance (HSRA), a Chicago based non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of the benefits that high speed rail passenger transportation could have in the United States. The Classic 5000 fundraiser is the signature event for the Rotary Club of River Cities. Proceeds from the fundraiser support local charitable organizations working to improve the lives of members of our community. Our Club has purchased winter coats for children in need in our communities; donated non-perishable food to local food pantries to help feed at-risk families; awarded college scholarships to help local students afford the cost of tuition; supported summer reading programs and camp scholarships to engage local youth; and made lunches to be distributed to the homeless population. Last year the Rotary Club of River Cities financially supported over a dozen organizations working with children and adults affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Club also supports global work in education, disaster relief, and disease prevention.
This year the Classic 5000 will be held virtually on April 10, 2021 and will include a live drawing for the top prize and the raffle prize packages.
