Our speaker today was Julie Kane from Mount Prospect's Human Services Department.  Julie supervises a staff of ten people (including an intern) and they are all busy, all the time.  The department offers a range of services, but they focus mainly on nursing and social services.

Today we welcomed two guests.  Dennis Oster visited from the Des Plaines club and Julie Kane, Director of Human Services Department from Mount Prospect and our speaker.

Greg talked about the citrus program.  Sales are continued declining this year.  We have averaged over 100 cases in the past, but this year we sold just 70 for an anticipated profit of just over $600.  The delivery date and time hasn’t been set yet but we should know by next Monday.

Kathy distributed more tickets for the Classic 5000.  She’s still collecting $50 for our internal ticket raffle as well.

Kathy also talked about Operation Warm.  Distribution is next Monday at the Mount Prospect Village Hall.  Thanks to John, Marisol, Jennifer, Kathy, Ed, Brian, Brett and Alex for volunteering to hand out coats!

Our speaker today was Julie Kane from Mount Prospect's Human Services Department.  Julie supervises a staff of ten people (including an intern) and they are all busy, all the time.  They have two main locations – at the village hall and at the community connections center, which they share with a branch of the Mount Prospect Library.  Julie’s department offers a range of services, but they focus mainly on nursing and social services.  On the social side, they run a farmer’s market, food pantry, and holiday meal and toy programs for families in need.  Much of the food for these programs are donated by local grocers and restaurants. They also have emergency financial aid for families who encounter unexpected emergencies.

A key component of the medical side of the department is homebound nursing.  A registered nurse visits people unable to regularly visit a doctor’s office for basic preventative care - blood pressure, making sure medication is being properly taken, etc.  Human Services also offers screening clinics throughout the community and they offer a wide range of health education programs for residents of all ages.
