Dawn Bluemke from Black Diamond Charities talked about her work providing kids with school supplies and veterans with career skills.

Dawn Bluemke was our speaker today.  Dawn is the Executive Director of Black Diamond Charities (BDC).  Established in 2012, BDC currently has two main projects.

Bac Pacs for Kids helps make sure students have the supplies they need to start the school year off right.  Children prepared with the necessary tools for school will help to improve their self confidence, tests scores, absenteeism, and most of all – put a smile on their faces!

Backpacks cost ~$30.  Last year they put together 2,800 back packs loaded with paper, pencils, crayons, erasors, markers, etc. along with basic hygiene items like toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap and combs.  This program has grown significantly since it began and Dawn hopes to see that continue in the years to come as she reaches new donors and volunteers.

BDC also coordinates free project management courses for veterans.  The course teaches veterans the tools and techniques that team members need to make the project team successful.  Designed to help vets transition back to civilian life, most qualify for PMP certification after completing the course.

Black Diamond Charities is off to a great start in helping two divergent, but vulnerable audiences.  We wish Dawn luck as she continues her good works.
