Our speaker today was Jennifer Brennan from the Harper Community College Learning & Career Center.

The Center has been through many incarnations over the years, but now they are focused on the needs of the Wheeling and Prospect Heights communities.  Their target market are immigrant adults with families, those who need to educational opportunities so they can increase their economic viability.  The classes the Center offers often lead to professional certification in business, health, hospitality, IT, manufacturing or transportation & logistics.  These sectors are growing and are looking for qualified employees.  The Center also offers free or low cost basic skills classes to improve English proficiency, literacy, etc.  Wheeling and Prospect Heights both have large and growing immigrant communities that often feel unable to access the resources needed to achieve the American Dream.  HCC’s Learning & Career Center is working to change that perception.
